Many Linux programs that are run on the Zaurus require something called swap space. What is swap space, you ask? It is virtual memory; it allows you to run programs that need more RAM than what you have available. Need some? Don't have it? This HOWTO is for you.
First, download this file: http://members.surfbest.net/hrabbey@surfbest.net/Projects/ChangeSwap/changeSwap_0.1.ipk
Next, make sure that you have the Terminal client installed on your Zaurus that came on the installation CD. Once you have this, and have loaded both packages onto your Zaurus, follow these steps:
- Start the terminal, and type changeSwap.sh -c nnn, where nnn is the desired size in KB.
- Your swap file is created; exit the terminal, and have fun with your program.
- When you're finished with the program, enter the terminal and type changeSwap.sh -d to delete your swap file.
That's it! You can now run all sorts of neato programs. However, it is not recommended to put swap files on CF or SD cards, as they will wear out fairly fast.
Thanks for reading this HOWTO! |
